From single phase to 3-phase, step by step
Need more power for an EV charger, heat pump or induction? This is the complete route to a 3-phase connection — including costs, waiting times and what you can arrange yourself. Calmly explained, no sales talk.
The 4 steps to 3-phase
This is how the switch works if your connection does need upgrading.
What does the grid operator charge?
One-off costs for upgrading to 3×25A (2026 rates). You pay these directly to your grid operator — we earn nothing on them.
| Grid operator | Upgrade to 3×25A (one-off) |
|---|---|
| Liander | € 368.77 |
| Enexis | € 275.15 |
| Stedin | € 258.95 |
Live in the area of a regional grid operator (such as Coteq or Rendo)? Similar rates apply. We'll find out which grid operator serves your address.
And the yearly costs? Nothing to worry about.
A common concern: 'won't my monthly costs go up a lot?' No — as long as you go to 3×25A, which is more than enough for virtually every home.
The waiting list since 1 July 2026 — calmly explained
The power grid is full in many places. That's why a national prioritisation scheme from regulator ACM applies since 1 July 2026: in areas with grid congestion, applications for a heavier connection go onto a waiting list, where public services such as schools and hospitals may get priority.
What does that mean for you? Applications submitted before 1 July 2026 are still handled under the old rules until 1 January 2027. For new applications the waiting time depends on your region — for reference: in 2025 an upgrade took about 21 weeks on average.
Our advice: no panic, but do prepare. Make sure the application is correct the first time and the meter cupboard is in order before the grid operator visits — then you won't lose time anywhere. And once more: if your home already has 3 phases inside, there's no waiting list at all.
